Sand Filters
Sand filtration is used to reduce suspended particles and turbidity ahead of other treatment equipment. Water passes through a media bed that retains particles until the filter requires cleaning.
Selection and operation
The media grading, vessel size and service flow affect performance. Backwashing removes accumulated solids and needs adequate flow and a suitable drain. A sand filter is not a desalination system and does not by itself establish drinking-water safety.
What to check before selecting a system
- Check inlet turbidity and expected solids loading.
- Size both service flow and backwash flow.
- Monitor differential pressure and filtrate quality.
Plan for ongoing service
Keep equipment model details, operating readings and maintenance records available. Review any change in source-water quality or demand before changing the operating settings or replacing components.
