How does a water softener work?
Water passes through an ion-exchange resin that replaces calcium and magnesium ions with sodium ions. This reduces hardness and helps control scale.
The resin is periodically regenerated using a salt solution. Keep the salt supply topped up and service the system as recommended. The right model depends on a water test, peak flow and household or business demand.
A water softener treats hardness; separate filtration or disinfection may be needed for other water quality concerns.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR WATER
Small minerals.
A big difference at home.
Hard water contains dissolved calcium and magnesium. Over time, these minerals can leave scale on taps, showerheads, heating elements and appliances. You may also notice spots on glassware or soap that is difficult to rinse away.
A correctly sized water softener reduces these hardness minerals before the water reaches the equipment and fixtures you want to protect. The result is less scale and easier everyday cleaning.
Swiss Aqua helps you select a system around your water test, available space and daily demand, with installation and ongoing service support.

EVERYDAY BENEFITS
More comfort. Less scale.
A practical improvement for the water you use throughout the day.
Help protect appliances
Reduce hardness-related deposits in compatible water heaters, washing machines and other connected equipment. Follow each appliance manufacturer's water requirements.
Easier cleaning
Less mineral residue on taps, shower screens and fixtures makes routine cleaning more manageable. Other dissolved substances may still leave marks.
Better soap lather
Softened water helps soap lather more readily. Adjust detergent use according to the product instructions and your experience.
Care for your plumbing
Manage new hardness-related scale in the treated water supply. An assessment can identify whether existing deposits need separate attention.
Capacity selected for you
Match resin capacity and flow to occupancy, peak demand and measured hardness, rather than selecting a system by size alone.
Support beyond installation
Get guidance on salt replenishment, regeneration settings and maintenance so the system remains suited to your usage.
HOW IT WORKS
From hard water to softer living
An ion-exchange system works through a repeating treatment and regeneration cycle.
Water enters
The incoming supply passes into the resin vessel at the system's designed flow rate.
Hardness is reduced
Resin exchanges calcium and magnesium ions for sodium ions as water passes through.
Softened water flows
Treated water supplies the connected fixtures and equipment in your home or business.
Resin regenerates
A salt solution restores the resin's capacity, followed by rinsing before treatment resumes.
A softener treats hardness. Additional filtration or disinfection may be needed for other water quality concerns.

A SYSTEM TO SUIT YOUR SPACE
Compact at home.
Capable at work.
Cabinet-style systems combine the treatment components into a compact format. Separate-vessel and duplex configurations can be considered where demand, operating hours or installation conditions call for another approach.
- Homes and villas: plan around bathrooms, occupancy and peak water use.
- Hotels and hospitality: assess laundry, hot-water and housekeeping demand.
- Commercial buildings: select treatment for the equipment and outlets that need it.
- Industrial applications: coordinate softening with process requirements and any other treatment stages.
INSTALLATION & CARE
A clear plan from start to finish
Before installation
Check water hardness, inlet pressure, peak flow and available space. Confirm a suitable drain, power supply where required, and access for salt replenishment and servicing.
During commissioning
Connect the system with appropriate isolation and bypass arrangements. Set regeneration to suit the water supply and demand, and check operation and treated-water hardness.
Ongoing maintenance
Check salt levels regularly, inspect for salt bridging and arrange servicing according to the selected model. Retest hardness if your water supply or usage changes.
YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
Water softener FAQs
How do I know if I need a water softener?
A hardness test is the best starting point. Scale on fixtures and poor soap lather can be clues, but a water analysis helps determine the appropriate treatment.
Which size should I choose?
Selection depends on measured hardness, daily consumption and peak flow. Share your property type, occupancy and water test results with our team for a suitable recommendation.
Do I need to add salt?
Most sodium ion-exchange softeners use salt for regeneration. Use the salt type specified for your model and check the brine tank regularly.
Does it replace an RO system or drinking-water filter?
No. Softening and filtration address different water characteristics. A water assessment determines whether separate drinking-water treatment is needed.
Will it remove existing scale immediately?
Softening primarily helps manage new hardness deposits. Existing heavy scale may need separate cleaning or maintenance.
Can you help with installation and servicing?
Contact Swiss Aqua with your location, existing setup and requirements to discuss installation, commissioning and maintenance support.
